Mads Sjøgård Pettersen was born in 1984 in a small town in the north of Norway called Straumen. At the age of 10 he did his first performance as an actor and from there on it was no looking back.

From age 10 to 16 he spent all his spare time working in different theatre companies in the county of Nordland, both as an actor but also later as a theatre director.

When he was 16 he moved to Mo i Rana to study at Mjølan High School of Performing Arts. During his high school years, from age 16 to 19, he worked in close collaboration with the county theater: Nordland Theatre.

At age 18 he applied to the The Norwegian Theatre Academy in Fredrikstad and from 2003 to 2006 he took his Bachelors Degree in Acting there. In 2006, 22 years old, he was educated as an actor and stepped into the professional world. He then moved to the capital; Oslo, and started his career.

In Oslo he founded his own theatre company Fantastic Four and with state funding he made his first independent performance, Bestiality Part 1, which was nominated for the Oslo City Award for Best performance of the year. The same year he starred in other performances in different theatres in both Oslo, Bergen and Mo I Rana.

In 2007 he directed his first theatre performance, Hangover, on a large theatre-institution; Nordland Theatre, where he also played the lead part and wrote the manuscript. Based on this work he was hired at The National Theatre in Oslo later that year.

After his magnificent performance in Ulrike Maria Stuart at The National Theatre, in the autumn of 2007, the leading Casting Director in Norway, Celine Engebrigtsen, picked him up and this is when his carrier within film and TV started.

In the range of three months he was casted for three different feature films. His first movie North earned him The Norwegian Academy Award, The Amanda Award, for Best actor in supporting role. North also won the Europa Cinemas Label Ex Aequo at the Berlin Film Festival in 2009. The same year it was hand picked by Robert De Niro for Tribeca Film Festival where the director Rune Denstad Langlo won a prize for Best New Narrative Filmmaker.

Sjøgård Pettersens 2nd movie Cold Prey 2 was Norway´s biggest audience success in 2008 and his 3rd movie Upperdog gave him his first lead role on the silver screen. The following year Upperdog set of to win The Norwegian Academy Award for Best movie of the year, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Sound Design. In 2010 it was also nominated for Nordic Council's Film Prize.

From this point on he has kept on working simultaneously within feature films, TV-series and theatre performances.
